Tickles and Tears

I am sooooo excited, I am now in the re-homing section! I have a lovely bright cabin with a super poster on the glass telling everyone about my Blog!

It is great in here, as I have met lots of the wonderful cat cuddlers who make us feel loved. These big ones are very special, they come in to see us and tell us about their week whilst stroking our stresses away. I am now waiting for that special big one to take me home. Please come and see me, and tell me what you think of the blog as no-one leaves any comments...

It has been very busy this week, a few of my friends have been reserved and bragging about it all day. Arthur is the worst, he has been on reception (again) and tells everyone that he wants to makes sure the big blue ones are working hard before he goes to his new home. He likes to strut around and sits on every chair in turn (because he's the boss you know).

There is a lovely big one with curly hair (she is one of my staff) and she talks in a funny accent. Big Tommy told me she is Italian. I have been learing a few words so she will be so impressed she'll give me some more of that wonderful catnip. Otherwise I have to pinch some off Dillon!

Did you like my photos from last week? They were checking the shaved area to see if I could have babies or not. Are they mad?? At my age?? I know I flirt with the tom cats but really all I want is a nice quiet home with a comfy lap to sleep on.

We have all been very sad this week as our dear old friend Pogo left us to go over the rainbow bridge. He had such a hard life and it was such a shame that he never got to live his last few months in a comfy home. Please spare a thought for him today and all the others who are still sitting here waiting after many months.

Now another reminder - please come and see us all on Sunday 27th June during our open day. There will be lots of fun things to do and eat. The big ones are ever so helpful & can answer any feline questions you may have.

Right time to go. I have to be extra nice to the big one with the shaved head so I can get a turn on reception.
Love and licks, Jasmine xxxxx

In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this. ~Terry Pratchett

Week 2

What an eventful week I have had! It so nice to see that I have some friends on Blogger! It gets very lonely looking out at the world through a pane of glass whilst missing the comforts of home.

Well, the pretty big one came back and said that my yukky teeth had to come out. She could not believe that other big ones do not check their cats’ teeth, and she said that I was very brave as mine were rotten! I won’t go into details but they have been removed and I am so grateful to those lovely big ones that donate money. Without their kindness we cats could not have these problems fixed by the experts.

Elvis & Earl have been the reception cats this week (it's a very sought after position), and I asked them to do a bit of research on the PC when the big one wasn’t looking. Those two are great, first time I met them they were so shy. It took me 3 days worth of paw waving before they purrrred back.

So I had to bribe them with 3 bags of catnip, but they got the information I needed to share with you about moggie teeth:

It is possible to care for our teeth in several ways. If you have a young kitten you could try to start brushing its teeth on a regular basis. Do not use big ones toothpaste! You could use the C.E.T. toothpastes which are quite well tolerated by cats. There is also a gel (Logic) which helps to prevent the build up of plaque on the teeth.

If you have an older cat that is not used to having its teeth brushed it may be impossible to start now. So you could try alternative ways to help prevent dental problems. You can buy yummy chews which help to reduce plaque and calculus build up (for example C.E.T. chews). Generally it may help if some part of our diet is given in the form of hard crunchy biscuits. So now you know..

Big Tommy had a turn on reception yesterday (he’s such a hit with the female big ones) and told me that all the big ones at the centre know about toothy problems so anyone can ask them for advice. I’ve noticed that big ones also like to eat hard biscuits with their tea but I never get offered one.

I will leave you on some purrrfect news.....the pretty one with the red hair tells me I can move to the re-homing section next week! I have lots of grooming to do as I will be moving to a new cabin (and I want to show the youngsters that us older girls can play with the best of them).

Jasmine

Hello, my name is Jasmine. I have a lot of time on my paws, so thought you might like to hear what is new in my life?

I am 16 years old (but if any of those tom cats ask, I say I am eight as I can jump fences with the best of them).

A few weeks ago my life turned upside down.

I had a home by the sea, and spent my days watching those pesky seagulls out of the window. My owner let me sleep on her bed, and I dreamt of all those mice that I used to chase in the garden. Then one day I was rudely woken and put in that box thing. Once I had stopped meowing I realised that I had been taken on a journey far away from everything that I had known for the last sixteen years.... And so here I am at the Cats Protection.

My owner decided that things had changed at home and she could not look after me anymore. If I could cry I would have used up all the tissues! But life must go on, and I want to share my adventures & what happens to cats like me that need a new home.

Week 1

I have been taken to my own little ‘cabin’. It’s small but clean and I have the softest blanket I have ever felt. I like watching all the big ones going past. The radio is on and though I enjoy hearing familiar sounds, I cannot say the same about some of the big ones singing that accompanies it!

I feel shy today and do not want to leave my blanket. All these new sounds and smells have confused me.

A pretty big one came to see me; she looked at my paws. My feet have hurt for a long time now, it has made walking difficult.
She told me that my claws were overgrown and I must have an operation.

And now here I am, my ingrown claws have been snipped & the wounds on my pads have healed. They gave me special medicine so I went to sleep whilst they sorted it out. I can’t tell you what a relief it is. Big ones often don’t realise that when cats get old we need to have them clipped sometimes. They are so nice here, I told them about my sore teeth, and they are going to fix that too.

I am now glad that I am here, as they really know how to look after us pussycats!

Well I need to have a little nap now (it’s my favourite thing) so I will CATch up with you in a few days and let you know how my dental check goes.

Meet the Moggies!

Welcome to our MogBlog!

In the next few days, you will be able to follow one of our purrrfect cats during their stay with us while they wait for that special person to give them a new home.

About us:

It is set in 51 acres of the Ashdown Forest, a great place for walking and enjoying spectacular views over the Sussex countryside and known over the world as the 'home' of Winnie-the-Pooh.

At the NCAC approximately 150 cats arrive per month, and with its 202 pens, divided in 2 Homing Wings and other 5 sections not open to the public, the NCAC has up to 400 cats looking for new homes.
